Wiltshire Country Wagon Holidays

Our bed and breakfast at Puckshipton House is now complemented by a self catering woodland hideaway beside the lake, out of sight and earshot of the house - and the rest of the world!

The wagon (think a wood cabin with wheels) was hand made by James (see his organicfurniture website) and has a double bed and a bunk bed, sleeping four comfortably.  Both can be turned into sofas to create more space for daytime use.  Inside there is a table, bench and chairs for four.  Heating and cooking is provided by a wood burning stove and a double gas hob.

Hot water for an outsideshower and for washing at the belfast sink is also supplied by the wood burner. Plenty of suitable firewood is provided ready stacked outside.

Water for the hot water system is hand pumped from the river into a tank prior to lighting the stove. Drinking water is supplied in containers refilled from our domestic supply.

There is a gas fridge for keeping food cool and light is from a paraffin lamp.  It is advisable to bring a torch or two!

All beds come made up ready for use with duvets.

A composting loo  has wonderful views of the trees and is at a discreet distance from the wagon.

The wagon is on its own, hidden within a small  woodland and beside a two acre lake.

The  views of the surrounding countryside are unspoilt and no one can see the wagon from roads or public footpaths.  There is a small river running alongside the lake.   There is space to erect tents if your party is larger than four.  Alternatively the bed and breakfast is available for  those in your party who would like a little extra comfort.

You can build a small fire to cook on or to sit around and there is plenty of rough firewood to forage for, besides the chopped logs for the stove.     There is also an outside table,  and a hammock to lounge in.

Fishing is available in the lake and the river.  An up to date licence is required. A rowing boat is available with life jackets for children.

Dogs are welcome as long as they are kept under control at all times and all messes are tidied up and buried in a designated place.

There are two pubs within walking distance (20 minutes and half an hour) as well as many other walks.  The local garden centre (40 minutes walk) across fields and down quiet roads  has   a good selection of local food available.

A home made cake, milk and a supply of tea bags await your arrival.
